| Brian Dash has received assurances from Totton
police Inspector, David Moore, that police patrols will be
stepped up on a Totton Housing Estate.
Councillor Brian Dash, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary
Spokesman for the New Forest, was prompted to contact the
police following representations made to him by residents
of the Rushington Estate in Totton. In recent weeks there has been
a spate of overnight incidents of criminal damage, including
car wing mirrors being broken off, fence panels kicked
in and brick walls being pushed over. One elderly resident,
a widower, reported that his entire front wall had been
pushed over. It would cost £1,000 to make good the
wall with no guarantee that the offenders would not come
back and repeat the exercise. Brian says "It is very distressing,
particularly for elderly residents who fear that they are
being personally victimised. It is hard to offer them reassurance
when this sort of things becomes a common occurrence."
It is hoped that an increased police presence
may at least deter the people responsible from repeating
this mindless vandalism. In the meantime, the Rushington
Manor Residents Association and local Councillors are urging
all local residents to report all incidents to the police. |
