Ann Buckley scored an amazing triumph by
winning the Battins and Bondfields ward of Hampshire County
Council on December 2nd.
The by-election was caused by the death of Labour's group
leader and was one of Labour's safest seats in the County.
But the Liberal Democrats won the seat with a stunning 33.5%
swing.
On
hearing the news, Brian Dash said: "This result, where
the Lib Democrats have come from third place to take the
seat with of a thumping majority of 545 votes over Labour
and with the Tories almost out of sight demonstrates the
facts of political life.
Labour, despite a giveaway budget,
is still a disappointment and the Tories, who have punished
Hampshire's Council Taxpayers with huge increases received
the verdict they so richly deserve."
