Brian Dash, Parliamentary Spokesman for the New Forest Liberal Democrats, paid a visit to the new Hangar Farm development in Totton this week to check on progress.

The £3 million project, funded by developer's contributions, lottery heritage funds and investment from the Town, District & County Council and Totton College, is the biggest single project ever undertaken by a Parish Council.

When finished, early next year, it will provide a range of facilities including 8 tennis courts, a modern children's play area with paddling pool, and a superb theatre complex and bar facilities.

Town Councillor, Len Harris, Chairman of the Amenities Committee, was on hand to show Brian how building work is progressing, along with Town & District Councillors, Alan Weeks and David Harrison.

The project suffered a major set-back when the original contractor pulled out half way through, due to financial problems.

Fortunately, most of the problems have been overcome and the building work is now on track.

The main barn, with theatre facilities, is due to open next month for the use of students studying Performance Art at Totton College.

At the time of the visit, members of a local dramatic society were also assessing the building, measuring it up, clearly very excited at the potential for its future use.

Brian Dash says "I am very impressed. The facilities here will be of interest to people of all ages and abilities. The design has ensured that features of the original farm buildings have been retained. It is a mixture of the old and the new that will serve the leisure needs of present and future generations".
