Brian Dash PPC and
Phil Willis,
LibDem Education Spokesman |
Brian
Dash, reminded delegates at the LibDem conference in Bournemouth,
about the importance of LEAs in the education of our children.
Citing
the example from the New Forest, Brian illustrated how
a junior school, 12 months ago, was placed in special measures.
Brian
said: "Changes were made. A temporary Head Teacher
was promised from elsewhere in the County - a bit like the
Mayor of Gotham City calling Batman!"
In
the SAT tests this year that school, moved from second to
bottom in Hampshire, to ABOVE the national average. Brian
reiterated that "School improvement
can't be done from Whitehall, nor can it happen by leaving
schools alone and hoping for the best.
Constructive
policies aimed at ensuring that every local school is a
good school, offers the only realistic way forward."
