| A New Forest Bee |
Liberal Democrat Campaigner, Brian Dash, attended
the Annual General Meeting of the New Forest Bee Keepers
Association, this weekend.
The meeting took place at Lyndhurst Community
Centre, where members displayed various products made from
honey, including some very tasty looking biscuits and cakes,
mead, candles and jars containing different varieties of
the pure liquid.
Brian was able to mix with members, learning
about the importance of bee keeping, the different techniques
and the threat posed by government plans to cut the number
of Inspectors. There was widespread opinion at the meeting
that the DEFRA Inspectors carried out a very important role
in carrying out inspections, helping deal with the spread
of viruses and educating bee keepers with regard to good
working practices.
Apparently,
concerns raised to government about the plans to cut the
numbers of Inspectors have fallen on deaf ears. Brian has
promised to argue the case for the posts to be retained.
Brian says "I enjoyed my visit. However,
it is clear that Bee keepers are not being listened to. Perhaps
I can help voice the very real and well founded concerns
they have". |
