| Brian Dash, Parliamentary Spokesman for the New
Forest Liberal Democrats, has pressed the case for improvements
to Totton town centre to start quickly, to include replacing
the lorry park at Rumbridge Street with an attractive entrance.
Council Officers have drawn up plans that involve
removal of the lorry park. However, the plans are threatened
by opposition from the Road Haulage Association who argue
that the park is lorry is needed.
Brian
Dash attended a meeting of the Planning Committtee at Totton & Eling
Town Council this week and urged members to support removal
of the lorry park.
He said "Improvements
to Totton town centre are long overdue and they are due to
start with Rumbridge Street. It would be a great opportunity
missed if the plans did not include removal of the lorry
park. The lorry drivers do have a nearby alternative stopping
place. This is at Rownhams, just a few minutes drive away
with much better facilities. I hope members will support
removal of the lorry park, making an attractive entrance & enhancing
the environmental and economic prospects of the town". |
